>>The Dell'Oro figures are out and they show Nortel gaining market share to 48% of the global optical transport market for Qtr 4 of 2000 and 60% share of long haul DWDM and 54% of metro DWDM. I realize that NOrtels rate of growth in slowing in 2001 but these figures seem to cast some doubt on statements about Ciena taking market share from Nortel.<<

Do you have the original release? (I assume this comes from a report that cost zillions so I won't ask for that...<g>)
As you know, I have not been one of the people that have been saying Ciena is taking market share away from Nortel (I have not had any real hard data to back it up...) but have just posted articles that speculate on that. Perhaps Ciena is winning deals here in North America and taking some market share from Nortel but that share is more than made up overseas? (where traditionally Nortel has been strong...) This could explain why Ciena does not see the slowdown the other networkers are seeing here. And it would be in keeping with some of the other stories I have read about business abroad still being robust (see the executive changes and reasons given for them at Cisco today...) This is only pure speculation on my part, but I would be interested in seeing the actual release or report summary. Thanks.
