Try this, bookmark a site, SI is good as it gives you an icon. Mark it as available off line. (this seems to be the secret)

Then use explorer, make sure you are searching all your drive.

Most of my icons from browsing are in C\windows\web but by making it available off line the icon is in \windows\temporary internet files\content.IE5.
