In a press release Tuesday, Samsung said Intel will support capital expenditure investment required to increase the chip production.

Seem's odd that Samsung now needs support to put in the infrastructure. They've been forecasting those kinds of quantities for some time now.

As long as a year ago they were quoted as saying, "By 2002, Samsung said the Rambus segment will be about 50% of the total DRAM market".

Also note the quote from Nikkei Market Access, "Global production of 128mb/144mb RDRAM will reach 270M units in 2000.... it will account for 16% of all DRAM's calculated on a bit basis."

I don't know what the throughput is on DRDRAM testers, but I wouldn't be surprised if that isn't part of the equipment Intel is underwriting.
