Samim, there were many good points made in that letter, but the tone of it leads me to wonder what its purpose is. The letter is addressed to Alan Greenspan, but contains phrases such as, "we have been, and are now, under the attck, and manipulation, of the United States Federal Reserve Board and its leader, Alan Greenspan" and "Alan Greenspan is not God, he is a demagouge".

I have been an outspoken supporter of Greenspan, and had long regarded him as an astute, creative, and effective executive during his stay at the Fed. But his actions over the past year bring to mind a drunken bus driver lurching from curb to curb, and I've begun to fear that he is groping for an answer that may not be available based on his economic groundings.

I think it would be meaningful to send him a petition from the SI community which has been so damaged by the Fed's policies, but I don't think the one you've linked does the job. In fact, if the letter had been addressed to AG's boss, which I guess is Dubya, I'd have fewer reservations about participating.

I'll be watching his presentation to congress tomorrow with great interest. Let's hope the old magician has a rabbit up his sleeve.
