SGI Japan to Strengthen System Integration Biz for FTTH
February 28, 2001 (TOKYO) -- SGI Japan Ltd. said it will further strengthen its business related to integrating broadband systems.

In stepping up its effort, the company launched a division called the Broadband Professional Service Dept. On March 1 it will establish Broadband Solution Center with about 100 engineers.

SGI Japan has had technological cooperation and joint development with Usen Broad Networks Inc. for fiber-to-the home (FTTH) services for content delivery, and through the experience it decided the FTTH service market for content distribution will grow strongly in the near future.

SGI intends to provide integration services, taking advantage of its competence in system integration for content delivery, coupled with sales of the company's own servers, billing systems and set-top boxes. Target users are telecommunication carriers, ISPs, broadcasting stations, and content production companies.

SGI Japan's President Norio Izumi said, "Asynchronous digital subscriber line (ADSL) will be good for the transitional stage in the development of broadband networks, but FTTH is our best bet -- I believe FTTH will change the way the Web is today."

SGI expects annual sales of more than 10 billion yen for 2001. (116.76 yen = US$1)
