Paul, Barrett is pretty positive considering the rest of the tech world has gone off the cliff.

Intel Corp. president Craig Barrett told the Intel Developers Forum Tuesday that despite the current PC industry downturn his firm "is operating under internal guidance" that its microprocessor and chipset sales will increase about 10 percent this year.

Joseph and his pal Osha might say that the inmates have taken over the asylum.

He also said Intel didn't expect the slower momentum in the communications market would prevent the firm from achieving 30-to-40% growth in its networking and communication chip segments.

Used to look for 50%. Have to settle for 30 - 40? Oh well.

Paul Otellini, executive vice president and general manager of the Intel Architecture group, claimed that the new 64-bit McKinley version will be several times faster in performance than the initial Itanium chip.

I thought I saw 2X somewhere else. But, 1.4 GHz now.

. He said an "entirely new (chip) platform will be introduced" after McKinley with the next generation Infiniband I/O an integral feature.

Won't hurt Intel being one of the Infiniband founders, and the other six: Compaq, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Microsoft and Sun Microsystems will make sure Infiniband gets designed into their server architectures and backplanes, or support it in SW. Intel can do the chips of course.

Just trying to keep sane here.

Tony
