William, RE: Well the CPI for 1999 was 2.7% and 2000 was 3.5% ----- the increase due mainly to oil prices which the last time I check they have no control over . In 1999 the core CPI (ex food and energy) rose 2.0%. In 2000 the core CPI rose 2.5%. A decent part of the increase in last year's CPI had nothing to do with energy. In January, the core CPI rose at an annual rate of 3.7%. Inflation has been increasing for 2 years now; energy is only a piece of the puzzle.
