Words of wisdom? The facts are that anyone who didn't sell their tech stocks in 2000 and subsequently stayed out of them, probably made the financial mistake of a lifetime. How many of you had enough to retire on in August of 2000, and then have watched that plummet 80-90% in 6 months? I have been a full time investor for only 7 years, but in those seven years I deluded myself into believing I was continually learning how to be a better investor. Well I didn't learn the most important thing - how to adapt and survive in a completely different environment. I have met the greater fool, and it is I. The long-term perspective is fine, but it indisputably will be years before these stocks see their highs of last year.
The problem is that I love technology - I love the promise of the companies, and the excitement of a new industry. I loved the fact I could participate in this through the market. The thought of investing in companies like Phillip Morris, polluters like GE, Dupont, defense companies like Lockheed ect. makes me gag. I'd rather go back to my day job. Therein lies the fatal blind spot.
To those of you who can so continually keep their interest high in these companies, I salute and thank you for the work that you are doing on this thread. Hopefully the rest of us who are totally numb can make a contribution at some point.
