Today’s FOMC testimony should blow off any concerns people may have about AG’s
wisdom. He’s proven once again his ability to put his finger on a problem, and eloquently
express it: technology, while a wonderful thing for productivity and real time business
management, may have advanced more rapidly than the population’s ability to
emotionally adapt. Increased knowledge of moment to moment changes in data has an
amplified effect that has increased volatility of human emotion, and therefore
exaggerated behavioral responses of businesses, consumers and the market. While the Fed
will make every effort to decrease it’s reaction time to respond to economic data, this
alone isn’t going to solve the problem. It’s his way of telling people the overall scenario
of increased productivity and strong US economic performance is intact, and that
irrational fear is governing the economy in the short term. Whether people will listen to
what he is saying is the question.
