In analyzing historical phenomena, care must be taken.

True enough, Neocon. In our political climate, all propositions are argued as if they were absolutes, which of course they never are. "Raising the minimum wage will destroy jobs!" Um, doesn't it matter whether the minimum was $1/hr or $20/hr before you raised it? of course it does. A raise from $1 to $1.50 will probably have different effects than a raise from $20 to $30.

Unless you truly believe that we'd all be better off with no government -- no laws, no police, no defense, no infrastructure support -- and I haven't heard anyone make that argument, then we're basically arguing about trade-offs, not absolutes.
