I have no intention of "going after you." I was merely pointing out that portraying oneself in a favorable light is not exclusive to Brinker. If. as you say, this played no part in your decision to combine 2000 results with 1999, then this provides a perfect illustration of the dangers of going by appearances to the extent that every action is interpreted in the most sinister possible light.

I'm glad to hear that you give full and frank discussion in your newsletter to "learning experiences." I hope you will also take note of the parallels between your not wanting to "give it away for free" on your website and Brinker's not wanting to discuss newsletter trades on the radio. If he had instituted this policy after the trade went south, then the accusations about his motives might make sense, but that's not what happened.

I'm glad to hear that you teach people to think for themselves, but as to "not following gurus," what's the difference between that and following a recommendation from your newsletter? Brinker teaches people to think too, as he has explained the principles that he uses to evaluate the economy, the markets, and investments over and over. You both seem to have your devoted followers, so I don't see the justification for calling one of you a guru and the other not. You both teach about investing and you both make investment recommendations. While you do a better job of tolerating dissent on your discussion site than he did, neither of you does as well as SI in that regard.
