yep...there's also quite a bit of research going on at the moment regarding gold's usefulness as a catalyst. new industrial applications will probably soon be found.

but that is of course not the main point with gold...the main point is that it is the only form of money that is not someone else's obligation. and there is only very little of the stuff available.
