MD,

Wouldn't it be funny that when the major record labels offer online downloads, sales would go down instead of up? I mean, how many times have we bought CDs only to dislike 3/4 of the songs on it. So far, the labels have been successful in having consumers pay for the whole CD just to get one or two favourite songs. Not anymore with online... we sample, and we buy only ones that we like. Most likely, we'd buy only a few songs, and avoid buying the whole album.

Another outcome will be direct sales by the artists themselves. Aimmee Mann and others are already selling direct to the public. From Mann's site, you can download 2 songs of her new CD for free, and buy songs individually.

It'll be a great time for music lovers. We can sample songs, and buy only those that move us.
