Has the flavor of a rescue fantasy! AT&T has been rumored as taking over nearly every net company in trouble. They don't seem to be too interested in deals of that kind, especially not at the market capitalization of AOL.

AT&T is interested in becoming a provider of Internet dialtone, not in overseeing a proprietary online service about to enter a severe financial crisis.
