Whenever I short, I typically use a Stop order to save myself from any rapid increase in stock price. This has saved me tons of time and money in the past. For instance, I shorted ZITL at $38. It dropped a few points to $35, then spiked up to $45. My stop kicked in at $38. I lost my comission but I was then able to short at the new price. Stops and Limit orders have saved me many a time from having to ride out painful rises. Of course, a fakeout breakout will get you, unless you re-short.
