Both NewNet & Datakinetics are developing SS7 middleware for Dialogics DM3 Mediastream architecture. Dialogic is (has) built the capability into their open-architecture platform, and this makes the most sense. For them to develop their own SS7 software would be to compete against their partners. Rather, their strategy of building the resource platform is brilliiant. Check out Newnet at new-net.com or Datakinetics at datakinetics.co.uk Look at this way. While we (the market) wait for Windows NT to take over the telecom space (which could take a long time), Dialogic's open platform enables developers to develop for Windows NT or, UNIX, which is currently the dominant operation system for telcos, etc. Windows NT may not play a signficiant role in the telcos until v5.0 ships with Wolfpack clustering early next year. Meanwhile, developers can develop to the DM3 spec and know that their software can run in both the UNIX and NT spaces This allows them to leverage the current dominance of Unix, while being ready for NT. Dialogic appears to be ready to enter the "sweet spot". Compare this to offerings from former Wall Street darling Brooktrout, and Lucent baby Natural Microsystems. Brooktrouts technology is not even worth discussing in this space. Natural Microsystems purchased TEKnique back last fall in what appears to be an effort to get into SS7. Dialogic, on the other hand, does not need to take this strategy, as DM3 provides the platform for SS7, as well as other technologies.
