Hi Paul,
The logitech mice come with mouseware 9.1 (current version) that support the extra functionality. If you check the background processes it is loaded as em_exec.exe. My Dell came with a logitech mouse; the GW's I've seen come with MS mice. I guess microsoft thinks the OS functionality is sufficient. (Although, they may also have drivers with extra functionality - I haven't bought a retail MS mouse in a while)
