Greenspan slipping:
I agree that he doesn't seem as sharp. One thing he used to do in years past was identify one or two indicators as primary, and then implement Fed policy according to their behavior. That way, the investment community could always understand why he was doing what he was doing.

Recently, he identified Consumer Confidence, as measured by the two major surveys, as crucial. Then, when both show huge drops thru Feb, he says consumer confidence bears watching, but there's no reason to be unduly worried about the economy right now! Go figure.

Message to Greenspan: Don't tell us one month that Consumer Confidence is crucial, and then disregard its plunge the next!
