All I have ever expected (Demanded?) was common decency and common courtesy. Why does that offend you?

The fact that there are differing views of morality does not militate upon the considerable consensus that exists about common decency.

I set no precedent. I merely indicated which meaning I intended. It is always understood in context.

I have no idea what you think you are arguing against. Ok, you have a stake in a free society. I already said that obligations are mainly a matter of self- control, not external coercion, and that one of the first principles of morality is to treat others with respect.

I never demanded you meet my desires, and I certainly never threatened you. I expect you to behave according to rules of decency and courtesy, and it troubles me when you do not, but that is about it.

I referred to the refined version of the rules, because they are the ones that we can recognize as well- founded. Again, I do not know what you imagine you are arguing against.

There is no meaningful social cooperation if we cannot trust one another in the first place. But in order to trust one another, we have to assume that all are basically decent, responsible, and honest. Social cooperation depends upon conforming one's conduct to basic social obligations before it can truly occur.......
