Now there you go again. You cannot help yourself.
I do not consider slavery and genocide to be ABSOLUTELY wrong. Please read the word "absolutely" to mean:
ab·so·lute·ly adv. Abbr. abs.
1.Definitely and completely; unquestionably.
Why do I say this? Well let's see- because I see nothing that is definite, and nothing that should not be questioned. Do I think that slavery and genocide (or even abortion) are "right". Not in this sense of the word:
4.Most favorable, desirable, or convenient or 5.In or into a satisfactory state or condition
But I have problems with this definition:
1.Conforming with or conformable to justice, law, or morality- because under this definition abortion (or slavery, or genocide) can be "right" if society says it is by law, or societal morality, even if I personally don't think it is right for me. Of course this epitomizes the dilemma of the relativist- we arrive at a personal morality, but we don't want to be too aggressive in shoving it on to other people. Which makes us good neighbors, but bad zealots- and sometimes you need zealots to defend you against other zealots. Ah, the complexities of life, eh Greg?
Words are not games Greg, they are actually tools to communicate. If you use them properly, you try to use them the way other people use them- so that the words carry meaning, and the meaning is similar for all parties. To aid you I have inserted definitions- not to play games, but to help you.
So what you think you know about me (the "we" was cute but probably inaccurate) is wrong. Which is typical. you are always making these careless errors. Doesn't it get old after a while? Maybe if you tried to think things out before you post, you would make more sense. Or maybe I am overestimating your capabilities. I do that. I am an optimist. |
