I would say that DataQuest disagrees. Unified messaging is not predicted to be in widespread demand for more than a year. Also, Unified Messenger handles max of 24 ports/box, and is sold as a SW product for $200/user. Not a big money system.

One fully redundant SP system (Sierra is not fully fault tolerant, CGRM and BSN are), sells for well over one million dollars. A typical SP could have many of these systems. Octels Unified messenger may help to grow their CPE market a bit, but SP is approx 1/2 of their business.

Remember IBM is still making a fortune in the mainframe business. Customers what reliability will pay top dollar for sales and support. SP is a high margin business. If Octel abandoned this market, they would lose half of their revenues, and slide into obcsurity.

I will investigate the overseas market share and revenues of CGRM BSN and OCTL. I do not think that Octel is the leader in this market (international SP).
