The QQV, the American Stock Exchange's volatility index, measures implied volatility of options on the QQQ, the Nasdaq 100 unit trust. The QQV climbed to its highest-ever level last week.
Like other volatility indicators, the VXN and QQV are inversely related to the underlying Nasdaq 100 index, rising when the technology-laden Nasdaq falls. But trading histories for the VXN and QQV are just too short-lived to be able to draw much of a conclusion.
