<<This is complicated stuff. To assign all this humanity to a single cell - I just don't get it. >>

Lemme 'splain it.

Humanity is defined religiously -- by reference to a "soul."

It enters the cells at the precise moment the sperm and ovum meet.

Lots of these souls God has wasted, since so very many are carried out, routinely, with menstruation. Odd of God, but there it is, and He does so many odd things perhaps we should not try to penetrate this soul-wastage. I mean, he makes starving little babies only to have them die in agony-- at least these fertilized ova aren't suffering. Let us be grateful for small favors.

But the fertilized ova that do stay there, have, instanter, that "soul" Greg's religious beliefs are so deep regarding that he feels everyone should be forced to live by them, even those millions and millions and millions of people who think it is nonsense.

I hope I have accurately recapitulated the argument I've heard so many times that ends at the point, each time, of Greg's side saying yes, we should all be forced by the long arm of the state to obey his religious dogma because he believes in it so strongly.
