And exactly who leads the market for database and enterprise applications software?

Certainly one could point to SEBL or SAP as leaders in certain areas of the enterprise software biz, though SAP is not as great a leader as it once was (deservedly so, IMO). Nobody else has the reach of ORCL in those spaces. Long term, they're a winner in the space, without a doubt.

The only question is what valuation do we assign to the dominant company in that particular space? How much is the whole space worth in the long term? And how quickly will the market recognize it? The last quesion is the one that is most on my mind, as I tend to think that the slowdown will take longer to resolve than many people believe, and that tech stocks will be very sluggish in their move out of it.
