Yahoo! a Takeover Target?

When America Online acquired Time Warner last year, the market predicted it was a sign of things to come...as the stars of the New Economy were going to
start buying up the stalwarts of the Old Economy.

That was then...this is now. Yahoo!, which at one time had a market cap of $130 billion has seen its stock price nose-dive 85%, flirting with the possibility of
dropping below $20 per share.

If that should happen look for Yahoo! to be a prime takeover target by companies like Viacom and Disney, both of which need a global e-presence to compete
with AOL/Time Warner.

Right now, everyone is waiting for the Federal Appeals Court ruling on the Microsoft anit-trust case. Preliminary signals indicate a favorable decision for
Microsoft, which many analysts are saying will poise the company for a new surge.

All eyes are also on Alan Greenspan and the Fed, waiting to see if the anticipated 50 basis point interest rate cut to 5% will materialize. Look for a market boost
on the rumor it will happen.
