Data will flow faster through a flat cable. It is well known that electrical conductors offer less resistance at lower temperatures, and that flat cables would be able to dissipate heat more efficiently than the more closely packed conductors in a round cable would allow, and thus run cooler.

Granted the improvement would be challenging to measure, perhaps a second or two in a billion years. But we must exploit all efficiencies, no matter how small.

Cheers, PW.
