I've tried this and have found (for me) that it's not worth the anxiety. If I'm not willing to let the shares go, I don't short the calls. It's more of a "problem" with QCOM since we're "vulnerable" to a major announcement at any time, such as a NOK deal on WCDMA, or a formal Nextel announcement that they are going 1x, or AT&T seeing the light, or a European carrier going 1x or 1xEV. One could also make a reasonable case that the Nasdaq has bottomed, or is close to it (for now) and we'll have a runup to the March Fed meeting. The excellent QCOM analyst meeting presentation is something to think about as well. Just my 2¢.
