Republican governors are the answer.
What amazes me about Democrats today is how they have wedded their future to the maintenance of a surplus to pay off debt. At least in the old days they would have realized a la Keynes that surplus is bad in a recession and the fight would be over spending programs(LBJ) and tax cuts(JFK) they would propose. Now they have no platform. They have become Burke Hickenlooper democrats. MIke
PS Hickenlooper was a midwest pre-reagan conservative senator whose only position back in the 50's was a balanced budget. Dick Gephardt is a Hickenlooper republican. The democrats are the reactionaries of the 2000's
