Shootie,

All excellent points, and of course you have found the flaw in my position. And that is I only have my life to worry about. If I had a child to protect I am certain I would have a completely different plan. That plan might even be to run away, as I could not provide for a child if I were to end up dead.

Certainly, I would trade my life for that of my child's. I know that you would do the same, and without reservation.

If I ever have a child then I must admit that most all of my "plans" would require major revision. Interesting how children change people's priorities.

Thanks for the information on the ammo. The ammo would be around ten years old. 150 to start with, one fired, 16 in the two mags, and the rest in the original factory boxes. I am going to check it out, and maybe pick up a fresh box or two this spring.

I like to shoot outdoors, and for some reason I never bring my own gun when I am invited by a friend. I think I just don't want to have to clean it later. I think it might be a good idea to check it out at least every other year or so.

I take it from your comments regarding near death experiences that you have been faced with something requiring you to defend yourself?
