It looks like the financing was for the holding company debt only- not the subsidiary ute. In exchange for making the holding company stronger (and more likely to withstand a chapter 7/11 of the subsidiary) they get warrants on the best part of the business. I'm sure they studied the situation quite closely, with access to data the common investor is unlikely to see.
