Whether it's true or not is irrelevant; the market seemed to believe it. cbs.marketwatch.com; 1:27pm 03/02/01 AMTD spikes on CEO report (AMTD) By Emily Church Shares of online broker Ameritrade (AMTD) spiked up to as much as 11 percent after the Wall Street Journal said that the firm has hired a Merrill Lynch executive as the new chief executive officer. Ameritrade officials weren't available for comment. According to the article, citing unnamed sources, Merrill's Joseph Moglia, a senior vice president in the private client group, will take the permanent CEO reins. Ameritrade's former CEO, Tom Lewis, left the Omaha discounter in early August last year. Founder Joe Ricketts had been acting as co-chair. Shares were last up 10.2 percent to $9.06.
