Since Sun does not have a dominant position in the overall server market lets say like Cisco does in its market - i suspect an amount of excess inventory is a plus as it expands the market for Sun product. Im drawing this observation because i went to a liquidation auction held by dovebid in San Jose and there was Sun, Cisco, IBM and lots of PC gear. A large Sun server (E6500) went to a startup which was previously on Wintel gear only. Sun's backlog is still very healthy over 800M based on the last conference call - availability of equipment has been a problem for Sun so the current weaning of the .com's recycles the equipment into new markets - a circle of life kind of thing.
