Does NE 1 here still follow SBC? Saw this post on Yahoo. I don't have any confirmation. Would be interested in any input. I think the FCC will continue with a pro-competition stance. (It started back in what '67 with Carterfone. They are not going to stop now that technology provides more options then ever before.) SBC Telecom done Confirmed!!!!!!!!!! by: sbctelempls 03/03/01 02:13 am EST Msg: 34442 of 34443 SBC today laid off approx. 1200 workers. They released sales people in all 12 markets and most support personnel in the Telecom organization. They kept some network personnel. This effectively marks the end of the telecom org.!!! SBC feels they can bypass the national expansion demands placed on them by the FCC, in accordance with the Ameritech merger. Go figure SBC got the required 3 customers per market and are meeting merger regs to the letter rather than the spirit of the law. to me this shows the CLEC market is NOT profitable and SBC exit does not bode well for other CLECs
