my grandmother told me that my grandfather had a piece of lard for lunch everyday for like 65 years!

And my grandfather ate bacon and eggs with tons of butter every morning for breakfast, and meat and potatoes every single night and lived into his late 80's. His long-lived wife, my grandmother, cooked with lard because it's a superior fat for making pastry, plus it's delicious.

The problem is, you don't know who will have those kinds of genes and who will not. For example, one of their daughters died in her early 60's from a stroke, and another daughter died at 70 from a heart attack.

I suppose in 10 years we'll be able to predict whose genes will allow them to be a meat and potatoes person and whose won't. Unfortunately, I already know I'm in the latter category, hence the caution :)
