Sound analysis of Pardongates past and present. I also caught a bit of Rostenkowski (paired with the Newt-meister) on Fox. I was a little surprised at how much the two agreed on the issues, past and present. Pork-barrel spending, indeed, is a problem that must be addressed if the Bush tax cut stays at or near $1.5 trillion to $1.8 trillion. John McCain has been a voice crying in the wilderness to bring pork-barrel spending under control, but who in Washington listens to him? Politicians of both parties must "just say no" to needless projects. My senator, Mitch McConnell, Hardhead-Ky., was patting himself on the back this past week during halftime of a University of Kentucky basketball game for "porking" the money for a new law school building at UK. I don't know whether the building was needed or not, but I have to question McConnell's involvement in something like this. Feds also just built a new federal courthouse here in Northern Kentucky. Think it cost something like $21 million. Was it needed? No. But I guess my other senator, Jim "Beanball" Bunning, wanted a nice place for his 35-year-old son, who might well be the frontrunner for the new federal judgeship that will open up when the present federal judge retires.
