Terry,
Major Storm Brewing could indeed be for real. I would note the NWS state college, which has been careful after being burned in our area (as I was, by 60 miles!) on the New Years weekend storm forecast, has just as of 2:05PM begun to upgrade from Winter Storm Watch to Winter Storm Warning. NWS is also hinting of a repeat storm late next week! This recent post of mine on SD (guaranteed to meet family values!) contains a link to Bastardi column on accuweather:

If there are some that cannot bear a visit to the thread of their Exodus, it can also be accessed via your link.
In any case, the technical points of this developing storm are interesting and worth reading, as it surely has the potential to be a hundred year storm. Three feet in Harrisburg PA (range 18"-36") is definitely an attention getter by anyone's book. If this develops as Bastardi envisions and we get high winds also, no doubt I'll be posting by light of the generator again, ggg. I'm not really putting odds on this one, but I'll go along with Bastardi's read this morning and give it a 3 out of 5 chance of being a megastorm/winter hurricane. Joe's pretty good and this kind of thing is right up his alley.
For those who have missed it, I extended my date for the advent of spring like weather up to March 15. Most forecasters are Bearish on the weather for March, as in Polar Bearish, but I still see a sudden change coming and do not doubt the March that comes in like a Lion will go out like a Lamb. Actually fits that winter will expend itself with some big storms, using up the winter energy available.
For NAO fans, its quite negative, which is a plus for the winter weather predictions, looks to me like it will begin to swing positive a week to ten days out, and this could be its swan song, it's that time of year.
Sure hope my friends beach house is there when I help them move into it in a week or so, I've already got my vacation days planned down there!
Best Regards,
