Yup, and we should all turn in our cars and drive a bicycle to the local train station, or buss stop in order to get to work. Except of course the ruling class limousine liberals, (e.g. Ted Kennedy). They can still be driven around in their limousines.
The pathetic thing is the Democratic party leaders still believe we are stupid enough to buy their rhetoric. I heard in the Democratic response to Bush's speech, they actually said interest rates went up after the tax cuts of Reagan's administration.
In regard to social security. I know why Democrats are unwilling to say what they intend to do in the coming years to deal with the demographic problems of the system. They want to raise taxes on the young and saddle them with the tremendous cost of the system.
They aren't willing to say it, because the don't have the political courage to take a stand now. They would be more than happy waiting ten or fifteen more years, when we're in a real budgetary crisis to raise taxes and say, "well, it's the only thing we can do to save the system".
They know, as I know, that elderly Americans vote in far greater numbers than young people do. So they don't really care if our children's children's are saddled with the HUGE cost of the system.
If Gore had won, you can bet we wouldn't be doing a thing in regard to structural reform of social security. Every bill would be vetoed, (unless it contained HUGE tax increases) and Gore's team of rhetorical garbage spillers would be claiming. "We are doing it because Republicans want to starve the elderly". |
