Well I know for a fact that Novell Canada and IBM will have no luck with the City of Winnipeg for eDirectory. That municipal government is in the early stages of deploying a full MSFT AD solution. They dont even realize just how many complex issues they have in front of them. I was mentioning to them just a few, but they have already put a ton of pre-deployment education investment into their direction. Unfortunately I dont think their IT shop has much depth of knowledge in the full capabilities of a TRUE directory Service. But of course, MSFT is almost giving them everything they need in licensing and training so that there might be a success story for MSFT IF the City of Winnipeg ever succeeds in deploying. I would guess that the likely deeep deeep discounts (if not free) access to MSFT technologies spoke loud to a normally cash-strapped municipal government.

The recent MSFT security bug in Active Directory that wont be fixed until MSFT customers upgrade to Whistler should be a sign to any IT shop of the immaturity of MSFT's AD technology. Too bad for those MSFT customers that fell for MSFT's virgin Directory Services solution and are now trapped into their direction.

I wish Novell/IBM luck in hopefully wooing the other cities. Maybe if the two worked together earlier, Winnipeg would have been an eDirectory success story.

Sigh
