Elmer,

Regardless of what happens 3-5 years from now with software, the issue is today.

Duron is low cost, and uses cheap SDRAM. P4 is expensive and uses very expensive dual-channel RDRAM. P4 offers most users no benefit at the present time.

Intel has a hole in their lineup as wide as the Grand Canyon.

Maybe high bandwidth apps will be commonplace in three years, but by then AMD will be there too. P4's good features are ahead of it's time, and it's bad features (i.e. cost and mediocre performance on legacy apps) hit it right where it hurts.
