I've been shorting almost exclusively from 1999 until the present. I have to say that the pickings are very slim, and for the first time in ages I hold not one short position. When I hear about the large number of people starting short-selling for the first time, I have to think we are at a bottom. The masses are Always wrong. Just like in 2000 there were people buried buying near the top, there will be many shorting right at the bottom. While we are far from having a healthy market, I think the risk/reward from shorting is terrible right now.

While it might be painful not having Greenspan cutting rates again right now, it's for the best. The absolute worst thing for this market would be to have Greenspan continuously cutting rates, with no effect. This market needs to work itself out, and it will.
