The LT buy and hold strategy works if your stock picks include the leaders of their industry. For example ORCL split in the last 10 years 10 times. The shares 10 years ago where trading at $4. That is 1000 shares 10 years would today be 1,024,000 or a $4000 investment in ORCL today would be worth $17 million even with the market recent severe correction. There were several times that ORCL shares dropped to less than half their value in a panic selling spree in the past. If you endured all the ups and downs you would have done very well with ORCL. Same applies to TXN, MSFT, SUNW, INTC, KO, DIS, etc.
