It will take decades, perhaps centuries, to bring the rest of the world up to the standard of living prevalent in the industrialized world, and therefore liberate masses of humanity from perpetual hunger, unpotable drinking water, rampant disease, perennial drudgery, undignified and filthy hovels, impenetrable ignorance, marginal participation in society, brutal regimes, widespread oppression, and so forth. To me, the most humane people are those who keep their eye on the ball and contribute to political and economic progress. They favor capitalism, because it is the best way of promoting economic growth.
