What do you project the timing on ftth.
This is a service that is going into a number of greenfield developments, and I've seen fttc for years. Mostly, the fttc was put in place by the ILECs, anticipating a future market for VOD, and as a means to compete with the MSOs. This is pretty much not going forward at this time. The number of small vendors that I've seen pioneering ftth can be counted on one hand, from what I've seen in the literature over the past 3 years. I think that until you see a blossoming of ftth in greenfield locations, that there is scant hope it will ever be widely retrofitted into existing neighborhoods. The ILECs, by and large, are committed to xDSL to use the last gasp of the copper cage, and the CLECs are by and large unable to any long tap the capital markets and the MSOs are just too tight with a buck to take the leap to ftth.

My conclusion? Don't hold your breath. :)

Best, Ray
