Jim, every car contains more platinum (or palladium if you a poor Japanese car manufacturer stuck with it <g>) then it contains gold, and Pt is certainly rarer than gold, just not as useful in some applications and more useful in others. It is a commodity like all other commodities and will follow the rules of supply and demand. Since there are 28,000 tonnes of the stuff in CB vaults, there is ample overhead supply to satisfy any shortages in the near future, IMHO.
