Glenn, lets get to the root of this rumor.<vgb>
Jim,
How do get get to the root of this rumor. The source is an "an unnamed executive close to the talks." That is about as clar as mud.
""He has the technical expertise, but not the sales, the customers or the money any more. Wal-Mart has the sales, the expertise and the money, but it doesn't have the strong online presence," the executive said."
This paragraph is funny. The technical expertise is easy considering hiring the employees or buying the remnants after bankruptcy occurs. Bezos is not writing the front end. he is too busy telling the press how much Suria's report is hogwash.
"The newspaper did not say how the deal would be structured or whether Wal-Mart would inject cash into the online retailer, which is struggling to make profits because of low margins and high debts."
This story tells us nothing. Zilch. My opinion is it is a rumor started with attempt to raise the stock price of Amazon.
Finally, could you please tell me why Wal-Mart would really need Amazon for any reason? Does Wal-Mart's weak presence on the web cause Wal-Mart to lose a lot of business? Penneys had well visited and decent on-line site. This is not high tech anymore. It is easy stuff. I can vouch for that. I admit refining the front end is not so easy but that can be done with professional programmers which I am not. There is a lot of off the shelf software to create this stuff now.
Back to this:
""He has the technical expertise, but not the sales, the customers or the money any more. Wal-Mart has the sales, the expertise and the money, but it doesn't have the strong online presence," the executive said. "
What does Bezos bring to the table? I am sorry but my opinion is this really is hogwash. |
