| | from Herb Greenberg realmoney.com <<Consider the latest from Fechtor Detwiler: "In channel checks today we have heard more evidence that the second half of 2001 will not bring a recovery to the semiconductor capital equipment manufacturers. Beginning on Tuesday of this week, Micron (MU:NYSE - news - boards) has been sitting down with its key suppliers to break the news that the 300mm fab [fabrication plant] planned for Lehi, Utah, has been pushed out for at least a year (no real surprise) and the 300mm expansion of Fab 4 has also been pushed out for 'at least one year.>>
Phil,
Eric Ross from Weisal Bros./Partners [?] just got back from a trip to Asia. He said end markets are starting to see demand pick up and inventories go down. VIA just announced a good quarter, said business is good.
Are they right or are the Fleckenstein's and Greenberg's right? There is no way to tell. No one has a great track record picking a bottom. In any case, I am getting ready to buy back into MTSN. Am I early? Probably. I will put in a stop loss and hope for the best...I would like very much to shut up the Flecks, they are getting old at this point. The name of the gain is minimizing your risk but, of course, without some risk, there is very little gain.
And frankly, there has been so much damage done to the Naz, I have to believe that we now have factored in a depression, two world wars, an assassination and a visitation from an alien race. I hope I am right.
JMO.
