I don't believe the copper pipes are fat enough for HD video-on-demand along with my growing need for bandwidth for daily exercise.

Actually they are, via VDSL at 52Mbps. A streaming video usually only requires about 6Mbps with suitable MPEG compression schemes. As long as the CU loop is less than about 3,000' and you are in a commercial district, it could happen. Just totally unlikely in a residential or rural area. :)
