CompUSA obviously got some big marketing bucks from Intel, in the form of the $200/cpu rebate, plus who knows what other considerations.. The offer was no doubt conditional on exclusivity for the week. That's life. AMD looked fine elsewhere today.

A Best Buy story from a few weeks back: I didn't make a comprehensive survey, but when I wondered into a local story because I was in the vicinity, I was surprised that AMD had about half the systems on display. Even worse for Intel, about half of Intel's share of systems on display were obvious returns, Piii 600's, Celery 433's, junk like that. I was actually sort of shocked.

PS: For entertainment, check out the memory breakthrough on the Compaq P4 system on the upper right in compusa.com . A P4 with SDRAM, months ahead of schedule! What a breakthrough for Compaq! Well, actually, it's listed as PC800 Synch DRAM, I guess that's just their subtle way of keeping the R word out of the ad.
