The goal of Wall Street Research is not to help customers make money. If the stocks that are recommended go up and customers make money, that is a side effect.

Research is designed to 1) support the investment banking relationships, and 2) generate commissions.

Goal one is accomplished by always having a buy rating on the stocks of companies you want to do business with.

Goal two is accomplished by making up plausible stories that people can be duped into believing.

There are exceptions, but not many.
