Athlon 1.2s are being sold (and guaranteed) at 1.4GHZ. amdzone.com has a link to a test of one of the systems posted at hexus.net . These are aircooled chips, mounted in a good quality case with a good quality heatsink and fan. P4 is just about out of time to move to 1.7/2.0 GHZ. Indications from overclock sites are that Intel could ship at least a few parts at 1.7, if not 2.0. My visits to retail stores indicate that high end PIIIs are disappearing from the shelves. Their marketability may have been hurt pretty bad by the comparison with high nominal MHZ P4s. Perhaps Intel is afraid that if the MHZ disparity gets any greater between PIII and P4, PIII sales will collapse completely. I wonder how big a hit Intel is taking in the corporate PC sector, since they've had to cut the prices of all PIIIs to accommodate PIII's number 3 position (after P4 and Athlon) in the retail sector. What was designed to be an Athlon killer seems to have morphed into a Pentium III killer that has limited effect on Athlons. Dan
